Seismic Strengthening Strategies for RC T-Beams using UHPC and CFRP Sheets: Experimental Investigation under Near-Fault Ground Motion

Abstract

The current reinforced concrete (RC) structure may function poorly due to degradation, an additional load, unconventional building work, or damage from natural disasters such an earthquake close to the fault. Thus, one way to increase the RC's capability would be to reinforce or upgrade it. Fiber ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) and epoxy resin material with a layering approach have emerged as a fascinating field for study and an appropriate method for reinforcing RC elements in recent years. Through an experimental investigation performed under pulse-like ground motion near a fault, this research analyses the flexural performance of RC T-beams strengthened with CFRP sheets-UHPC layer and the repair work of damaged specimens making use of the UHPC layer. After the pulse load, the combination of dynamic and cyclic loads is applied to determine the beams' performance. The outcomes have been compared to the original, unreinforced beam and explained, along with the load-carrying capacity, failure mechanisms, energy dissipation, ductility factor, stiffness degradation, and strain behavior. To assess the outcomes, an analytical method inspection was carried out. After the specimen has been fixed, the impact of the strengthening factor is studied.
